Problems with the lede

There are a couple of problems with the lede in the current article. First of all, the lede should "summarize the body of the article" (WP:LEDE). At the moment, the lede says that

... JIT migrated to Western industry in the 1980s, where its features were put into effect in many manufacturing companies—as is attested to in several books

and

... and compendia of case studies and articles from the 1980s.

However, neither of these passages are supported by the body of the article. Second, the first passage has 5 sources in its support; the second one 4 sources. This constitutes an obvious WP:OVERCITE problem:

... "citation overkill" ... can lead to examples such as "Garphism is the study[1][2][3][4][5] of ...

I think just one source should be enough to verify such short passages, although none of the given sources is freely accessible. I am in favor of deleting the material as it does not appear in the body of the article; the right way to go would be to first introduce the material in the body, and only after that include it into the lede.
